Not to worry! “Invisible” braces do exist. Both Invisalign and Lingual braces are options for patients interested in a “no show” Orthodontic treatment.
Invisalign is a series of clear, removable trays that are invisible. A certain amount of movement is built into each tray for tooth movement and bite correction. The amount of trays that a patient will have for their Orthodontic treatment varies from case to case. The best Invisalign patients are those who are self disciplined. Reason being, the patient carries a higher amount of responsibility and independence with Invisalign than they would with fixed conventional braces.
Lingual braces are braces that are attached to the inside surface of your teeth; the surface alongside your tongue and palate. Lingual braces are an excellent option for those whom would not feel confident wearing conventional braces that are attached to the outside of your teeth, and for those who have an Orthodontic case outside the limitations of Invisalign. Lingual braces operate in a similar manner as conventional braces. Treatment time, tooth rotation, opening and closing space, and bite correction are similar between Lingual braces and conventional braces. Lingual braces have the advantage of doing all of the above while being completely invisible. Plus, the time between orthodontic visits are longer than with conventional braces. Meaning, the amount of time you see your Orthodontist is less, all while completing your Orthodontic treatment in a similar time frame as with conventional braces.
